My Thailand “Go-away”

Date February 27, 2007

The photos in this slideshow were taken with both my Samsung D608 phone and my Olympus C770 Ultra Zoom

The title of this post is a reference to the only thing I heard my 2 year old daughter say to me for two weeks, the entire time we were in Thailand–minus the first 2 days. Those glorious 48 hours were before Daddy “let” her fall off the bed while she and I were napping together. She didn’t let me off the hook until we got back to Taiwan.
We flew in to Phuket and stayed there for 2 nights, basically waiting to get out of Dodge. We took a ferry to Koh Lanta, with a quick stop in Koh Phi Phi. We were originally going to stay in Phi Phi, but the island is too crowded and doesn’t really cater to families. At least, this is what I read.
Lanta is actually nearer Krabi town, which is located on Thailand’s mainland in the south. It’s advertised on Travelfish.org as

The scene is considerably less hectic than the busier islands and, due to the smooth beaches and calm waters it is particularly popular with those travelling with young children. A relaxing spot overall — if you have the time make the effort to wander down to Lanta — you will not regret it.

It was quieter than Phuket, of course and I am sure Phi Phi, too.  But with 2 screaming kids, it’s all a bit the same, no? The kids got sick. Maya got a uti which required a trip to the hospital and some antibiotics. They wanted to check her urine (under a microscope that looked like it came from my science set in grade school). The nurses were amused to see me try to get her to pee in a cup. I was too, for the first 20 minutes.
Isha then got sick–fever and runs–but it only lasted a couple of days. Maya got a nasty cold. And then they both stopped eating. Not sure if it was a form of protest, but it sure worried us. They each lost 2 kg.
More later…
